The Willamette Valley is where Oregon’s prime Pinot Noir is grown, and it is home to a number of award-winning wineries. This week, over 600 North American wine experts will congregate at the Willamette’s top wine events to taste over 150 Pinot Noir and over 100 Chardonnay from the valley’s top producers.

This July 26-30 week, Willamette Valley grape growers and winemakers are working with collectors to bring their wines to the Portland area for a week of tastings. The Portland Wine Experience is a preview for the 2018 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir Auction. This is an important opportunity for collectors to taste the finest Pinot Noir from around the state.

On the third Thursday of every month, the Willamette Valley is transformed into a vast auction house. Over 500 wine enthusiasts come to the Oregon Convention Center to bid on a variety of bottles and lots of wine. Willamette-The-Pinot-Noir-Auction-Preview-Week-July-26-30-Offers(Portland, Ore., July 19, 2021) — The sixth annual Willamette: the Pinot Noir Auction, which will take place on Aug. 5 at WillaKenzie Estate in Yamhill, Ore., will bring together elite members of the wine trade from across the globe online and in person. The Willamette Valley Wineries Association (WVWA) will host a virtual Preview Week July 26-30, in the spirit of the Auction’s customary walk-around tasting events, where guests will be able to taste 92 lots of Pinot noir and Chardonnay from the 2019 vintage.

“Preview Week is an opportunity for the Willamette Valley community to join together with our valued trade, restaurant, and media partners to celebrate everything the Auction represents,” says Auction Co-Chair Jessica Endsworth, a national sales manager for Northwest Wine Company. “We started Willamette: the Pinot Noir Auction in 2016 with the conviction that Willamette Pinot noir is among the finest in the world, and this year’s selections confirm that belief.”

For the second year in a row, winemakers and spokesmen from wineries will convene online for tasting seminar panels to showcase the range of wines available: There are 85 one-of-a-kind Pinot noir lots and seven one-of-a-kind Chardonnay lots. Seminars will be conducted three times a day, at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 2 p.m. PST, from July 26 to 30, when winemakers, winery proprietors, and visitors will have the chance to explore the Willamette Valley’s varied terroir and winemaking styles, as well as trends and possibilities within the area. The 15 sessions will really highlight the variety of the Willamette Valley, with 17 first-time participants, nine AVAs, and ancient and young wineries all represented. Starting August 5, registered trade will have access to the ClickBid-hosted online Auction site and will be able to place bids alongside the live Auction, which will be conducted by renowned auctioneer Fritz Hatton. Prior to the commencement of the live Auction at 1:00 p.m., in-person guests will be able to enjoy the expansive outdoor tasting area at WillaKenzie Estate with a two-hour walk-around sampling and a seated, plated lunch.
