In the family-owned winery business, it is the policy that you move to the next facility when the previous facility is too small to support the needs of the business. In the case of the winery, this is the end of the line for the current facility. The family has outgrown the current facility that has been in the family for three generations—and they are not giving up on growing the business.

LIVERMORE VALLEY, CA – 29. June 2021. – Wente Family Estates, the oldest family winery in the United States, is moving to a new, larger warehouse the first week of August 2021.  After several years of dynamic growth in domestic and international markets, the company quickly signed a new warehouse contract that will support accelerated growth in consumer demand. The expansion of our old storage facility is one of the capacity issues we have enjoyed tackling over the past few years. says Tyson Overton, CEO of Wente Family Estates. This expansion is the result of the combined efforts of our staff to provide exceptional quality and value across the Wente Family Estates portfolio in all price ranges, and to support the loyal and growing clientele in the United States and the more than 75 countries we are pleased to serve.

The Wente Vineyards brand experienced an explosive 2020 as consumers turned to tried and trusted brands. Wente Vineyards’ deliveries are up +11% over 2019 and depletion is up +6%. Morning Fog Chardonnay, Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon and Wetmore Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon have driven this growth – the family remains a leader in the Livermore Valley and Central Coast in the production of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Wente Family Estates has also seen tremendous success with innovative brands, including Angels Ink Pinot Noir, which saw a significant increase in new additions and sales in 2020. A notable exception is the tendency of many major trading partners to restrict imports during a global pandemic.

While many brands are experiencing sales declines between March and April 2021 compared to a year earlier, Wente Vineyards is one of six brands with rising dollar sales. They show +4.7% in the 12-week IRI data and a trend of +10% in the 4-week data*. Wente Vineyards’ growth continues, according to the latest IRI data, with annual sales of +21% in dollars, led by Morning Fog Chardonnay +31% and Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon +18.7%. **

The new warehouse will enable Wente Vineyards to grow sustainably and allow Wente Family Estates to expand its portfolio by developing new brands, increasing sales in key international markets and developing import partnerships: Bodega Cuarto Dominio and Blanchard & Lurton from Argentina and Blanchard Perez Organic CAVA from Spain. It is encouraging to see that consumers are reconnecting with the quality of Wente Vineyards and continue to enjoy our brand. It is also encouraging to see that global sales have exceeded our expectations and that our export business grew by more than 20% in the first half of 2021. Not to mention the initial response in the first year after the launch of Angel’s Ink, which shows us that this consumer brand is far from out of print, said David Enderle, Director of Sales.

As a result of the move to the new warehouse, Wente Family Estates will have to suspend all deliveries during the first week of August, but by the end of the financial year the company will be ready with an improved management system and warehouse. Even though we’ve been around for 138 years, we feel like we’ve only just begun. We are incredibly optimistic about the future of Wente Family Estates and look forward to continuing our positive trajectory with growth opportunities, said Overton.
