The Virginia Wine Council’s 21st annual Beaujolais Nouveau Artist Label Competition is a nationwide competition that seeks to promote the best and most creative wine labels in the industry. The first round of judging was held in January and the top 50 entries were announced. We then narrowed down the number of entries to the top 10. One of those ten was submitted by a Virginia Wine Powerhouse—Matt Saldana—who is a local artist living in the Charlottesville area. He won, and will receive a check for $3,000 and a 2 year advertising contract with the Virginia Wine Council.

Virginia artist Ben Smith of Charlottesville, Virginia, won first place in the Artisan Label competition, the first award in the Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau Artisan Label Competition. The competiton was created to honor the originality and quality of the wine labels created in the year prior to the release of the wine.

The world of wine is filled with opportunities to meet interesting people and make some great friends. As a wine blogger, I have the chance to meet some of the most fascinating, creative, and artistic people on a daily basis. I have the honor of meeting many great people, such as leading jazz artist Brian McKnight, who was one of my first blog tour guests, as well as singer/songwriter Jason Mraz, who was my second guest.. The winning artwork will be featured on more than one million bottles of wine this fall.

Napa, CA (June 9, 2021) – The winner of the highly anticipated annual Georges Duboeuf Original Artwork Contest has been announced: Felice Kite, of Woodbridge, Virginia, was elected by the people. Felice is awarded a grant and the honor of decorating the labels of more than a million bottles of Georges Duboeuf’s Beaujolais Nouveau 2021 with his work. According to French law and tradition, the annual release of the new vintage takes place on the third Thursday of November – this year on the 18th. November 2021.

I entered the competition the year before and was very happy when I was selected as a finalist, Felice recalls. As an artist, I create work to convey emotions through color, and I felt this was the perfect opportunity to do what I love most. I am very grateful to have been chosen as the winner of the Georges Duboeuf 2021 art label contest!

Felice Ris’ award-winning painting For the Love of Flowers conveys a festive mood with its playful pinks, yellows and greens. It also reflects the freshness and vibrancy found in the juice of the harvest. I want my work to bring people happiness, hope and love, she explained.

Our family likes to give independent artists a platform to showcase their incredible talents, said Franck Duboeuf, CEO of Les Vins Georges Duboeuf. We are pleased that people are so actively participating in the contest and not only casting their votes year after year, but also supporting the community as a whole.

The annual Georges Duboeuf contest for artist labels has grown in recent years to support emerging artists across the country. The online contest, in its fifth year, received nearly 1,000 entries from emerging artists and more than 8,000 votes from art lovers across the country.

Entries were submitted online through the contest website. The final group of 15 was selected through a public vote and the input of a panel of representatives from wine producers and art experts. The finalists were announced on April 21, followed by a two-week public vote via the website and social media. Participating artists were encouraged to share their work on their own accounts to gain support from colleagues, friends and family.

We are always amazed at the enthusiasm with which the art community participates in the label contest each year, says Dennis Kreps, who, with his father Stephen D. Kreps, is co-owner of Quintessential, the exclusive importer of Georges Duboeuf Wines in the United States.
