March 2021 – Upchurch Vineyard was founded in 2007 by Chris and Thea Upchurch and from the beginning has been committed to exploring and sharing the remarkable wines produced on their small estate in the southwest corner of Red Mountain, Washington. When we started, I wanted to go back to small production and extreme attention to detail with a vineyard, notes Chris Upchurch. And today, as we approach the release of our tenth… As we approach the year, I can honestly say that we did it and it worked.

With over 400 90+ scores for its wines at DeLille Winery and Upchurch Winery, Upchurch is recognized as one of Washington State’s wine pioneers, dedicated to creating wines of the highest quality and pushing the boundaries of its craft. At Upchurch, we strive to combine modern cloning research and sustainability practices with traditional methods and techniques from the old world.

This fall, Upchurch presents the Cabernet Sauvignon, the hero of Gemini. This wine will be a true exercise in precision, composed of barrels selected from specific rows within the same block that yield a quintessential vintage. The name Gemini Heroes comes from Mayan folklore; it’s a story about the origins of the sun and the moon, a perfect link to the two vessels so closely associated with the magic of nature and the meaning of warm sunny days and cool moonlit nights on Red Mountain.

Upchurch also announced the launch of its Heart of the Hill Vineyard in partnership with Scott Williams, owner and manager of the famous Kiona Vineyard in Cabernet, located in the Downtown AVA. I’ve been working with Chris for over 30 years. We are excited to work together on a new project, Mr. Williams said.

I can’t believe we’re gonna win the 10th. Thea Upchurch pointed out that this was the 10th vintage of our Cabernet UV. When Chris found this land and showed it to Dick Boushey, our winemaker, it was just a dream. Today it is a family business and a passionate one for all of us.

While the first 10 years have been incredibly challenging and rewarding, I look forward to our next chapter with a smile, says Chris Upchurch. Who knows what the future holds, but I can’t wait to find out.

Top vineyard on the Montagne Rouge Opening at 1. April

Upchurch Vineyard plans to officially open the season on the 1st. April for the opening of tastings and visits. The opening hours are from Thursday till Sunday from 11.00 till 17.00 hrs and on other days by appointment.

Tasting Notes – Concentrated floral and ripe blackcurrant aromas complement an attractive, textured palate with a delicate effect of oak. This carefully selected barrel produces a full-bodied, balanced wine that is a testament to the purity of Cabernet from Clone 2 on the Upchurch vineyard in the southwest corner of the Red Mountain AVA.

(Low Input Viticulture and Enology), a non-profit organization that promotes and certifies sustainable practices in viticulture. It is also certified as Safe Salmon, a program designed to protect the waters of the Pacific Northwest and the wildlife that lives there.
