Los Angeles’ most popular non-traditional winery is changing its business model after the closure of COVID-19 and starting experimental wine blending classes across the country.

Los Angeles, CA. (April 18, 2021)– The Blending Lab, a wine startup that creates personalized wine blending experiences, is taking its wine to the national level. The blending lab offers a new perspective on the wine world, where you can see how a custom blended wine is made. What started as a passion project and a tasting room in the heart of Los Angeles has grown into a virtual event that people all over the country can participate in from the comfort of their chairs.

The founders of Blending Lab, Michael, Magdalena and Chris, came up with the idea of creating this wine blending experience based on trials and experiments that winemakers around the world use to create finished wines. After the company had to close its doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team changed its business model to offer its wine mixing kits at home in some states. Blending Lab is now expanding its reach and will be available in 24 states, with plans to expand and scale across the country by 2022.

At Blending Lab, we believe that wine blending is a true expression of science and art, says Michael Keller, co-founder of Blending Lab. The Blending Lab was known for its personal wine blending classes, so we were shocked when we had to close our doors, but it allowed us to offer a virtual experiment to a wider audience who can’t come to our tasting room. While the combination of instruction and materials is not new, the current package allows wine lovers across the country to tackle the subject.

The Blending Lab makes its own wines in Los Angeles from grapes grown in vineyards throughout California, specifically Paso Robles grapes. The team uses their unique vineyard wines, handcrafted with minimal intervention, in all of their blending kits, which include three 750ml or 375ml bottles of red wine from The Blending Lab, as well as everything needed for the blending process (cup, measuring cylinder, funnel, pipette, 375ml bottle and stopper, detailed instructions) The kit is designed for one or two people and allows guests to recreate the unique masterclass blending so famous at The Blending Lab tasting room in Los Angeles. Not only are the kits reusable, allowing customers to repeat the blending process, but they are also versatile, meaning the materials can be used for any wine from around the world.

The wine blending process itself follows a simple pattern: customers are asked to research their favorite wine, taste The Blending Lab’s wines to find their favorite, and determine which elements of each wine they want to change to make it perfect. Then you are invited to try some basic blends to see how blending can radically change a wine.

Those who purchase a wine blending kit can participate in a self blending or attend a fun and informative virtual tasting and class on Saturdays at 3pm. PST, presented by The Blending Lab co-founder Michael Keller. During this hour-long hands-on session, Michael leads participants through an in-depth but unobtrusive wine tasting, after which guests learn to create their own blend, making everyone a winemaker for a day.

In addition to the varietal wines used for classes and tastings, the blending laboratory produces and bottles five or more signature blends each season. The Blending Lab currently offers over 10 different varieties of red, white and rosé wines that can be purchased in their online store and shipped to customers in 24 states.
