When you think of a typical Austrian wine, the first few things that come to mind are likely to be the gauche, slightly austere wines of the old Burgenland region. However, it is viticultural practices such as biodynamic farming and the use of organically grown grapes that make Austrian wine the world’s most unique. The Loess Grüner Veltliner is one of several unusual wines that come from the Wachau region, the most famous of which is the Grüner Veltliner.

June 2021 – Chicago, IL:Gonzalez Byass USA, a national importer of family wines, sherries and premium spirits, is pleased to announce Domäne Wachau’s 2020 Loess Gruner Veltliner, the first Domäne Wachau 1 liter/1000 ml bottle format wine to launch in the U.S. market.

Domäne Wachau, led by wine director Roman Horvath MW and oenologist and cellar master Heinz Frischengruber, has become one of Austria’s top wineries, with a wide range of award-winning Wachau wines that perfectly reflect their provenance.

Small vineyards along the Danube riverbed and valley floor are the source of Loess Gruner Veltliner 1L.  Löss (pronounced low-ess) is the soil of these vineyards, which produces fresher, fruitier wines than those produced on gneiss (pronounced nice) soils on the steeper slopes of the vineyards in the Wachau.

All grapes are handpicked, vegan and certified organic from Austria.  The one liter bottle contains 1 1/3 of a standard bottle or 7 glasses of wine.
