Hopland, California. – 23. February 2020 – Fetzer Vineyards, the country’s 12th largest wine producer and a leading provider of wines and spirits of three varieties, today announced the appointment of Chris McFerran as Senior Vice President of Sales.
McFerran joins the California winemaker and importer with an impressive two-decade track record in the wine and spirits industry. This includes successfully managing strategic national accounts for some of the country’s largest wineries and, more recently, leading wine and spirits sales for Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Beyond Beer business unit. McFerran’s key accomplishments range from the architectural success of traditional offerings to the management of alternative formulas, including managing 19 launches in the top 20 wine brands and catapulting BABE wine to the top of the canned wine category in the coveted convenience channel.
At Fetzer Vineyards, McFerran will be responsible for strategic national distribution of a portfolio of wines from California, Chile and Argentina, as well as craft whiskey from the Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. led by Giancarlo Bianchetti. His role will be to continue to grow Bonterra’s organic vineyards (+22% last year), the pioneer of the 1000 Stories barrels for spirits and the main importer Casillero del Diablo, named New World Wine of the Year 2020. He will also manage sales of fine wines from California and South America.
According to Bianchetti, Chris’ ability to build strong relationships with customers while growing categories, use his knowledge to find opportunities and lead partnerships is the foundation for Fetzer Vineyards’ continued business success. Her ability to quickly understand where market opportunities lie and bring together the right mix of resources, partnerships and programs to catalyze brand and category growth is part of our plans for the next chapter.
As Vice President of Strategic National Accounts (off- and onsite) for Treasury wineries, McFerran was responsible for more than $600 million in annual retail sales through 2020. During his tenure, Matua doubled in size several times over from 19 Crimes, became New Zealand’s fastest growing Sauvignon Blanc in the United States, and won IMPACT Hot Brand awards year after year, as well as the Beringer Bros. brand. Bourbon Barrel Aged was one of the best wine launches of 2018. From 2014 to 2016, Mr. McFerran was National Sales Manager at Delicato Family Vineyards, where he led the success of the top ten wine brand Bota Box, and at Anheuser-Busch InBev, he led Cutwater to the top of the U.S. ready-to-drink (RTD) sales charts.
Before entering the alcoholic beverage industry, Mr. McFerran began his career as a capital markets analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston in Manhattan. He received his doctorate from Cornell University.
