Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the duo behind one of the world’s most popular luxury brands, Dolce & Gabbana, are known for their clothing, shoes, jewelry, perfumes and accessories. In partnership with Sicilian winery Donnafugata, they have now added a wine label designer to their resume.

Last summer they released Donnafugata Dolce & Gabbana Rosa, a Sicilian rosé wine, and now they are celebrating the release of Donnafugata D&G Tancredi, a red wine. This limited edition is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d’Avola and Tannata. asked the designers for their new project.

Why do you think the partnership between Dolce & Gabbana and Donnafugata seems natural?

Domenico Dolce: In 2017, we partnered with Donnafugata, which accompanies Alta Moda’s events in Palermo with the winery’s most prestigious wines. We share the same values: Love for our home, attention to detail, know-how…. Handmade with passion and dedication.

How does this collaboration contribute to your ideal of Made in Italy?

DEAD: We want to make the colours, flavours, traditions, history and culture of Italy and especially Sicily known to the whole world. Made in Italy is a value. We are privileged to live in a country with an incredible artistic and cultural heritage. We are proud that our work can show its beauty and that this commitment is recognized internationally.

What was your inspiration for the label and packaging of Donnafugate Rosa?


Stefano Gabbana: For Rosa and Tancredi’s packaging, we wanted the layout to be instantly recognizable and close to our work. For Rosa, we took inspiration from the Sicilian cart [a colorful horse-drawn carriage] that represents Sicilian art, culture and tradition around the world, and we provided their graphics in soft colors close to those of Rosa.

What images did you use for the Tancredi label?

SG: For Tancredi… we have chosen for a visual combination of tradition and modernity. The gold, blue and baroque lines refer to the prestige of the aristocracy, while the red, green and geometric lines recall the revolutionary values that emerged in Sicily after the unification of Italy.

What other food, wine or culinary collaboration?

DEAD: We’re Italian. We like to eat and drink good wine. The partnerships that connect us to the culinary world and more generally to the culinary universe are diverse: Pasticio di Martino, Fiasconaro, Smeg, and we like to continue it because they allow us to always express our creativity and values in a new and different way.

Did you learn anything new in the process?

SG: It was very interesting to discover the elegance and precision behind the creation of this new wine, another element that brings these two realities together.
