With the new color-changing labels, customers can enjoy a perfectly chilled white wine, as the thermochromic ink changes from a pale cream color to a rich, vibrant color at the ideal serving temperature.
Napa, CA, 11. January 2021 – CK Mondavi and Family has been a family business for four generations and will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2021. Founded in 1946 by Italian immigrants Cesare and Rosa Mondavi, the winery is known for its portfolio of affordable, high-quality wines that go beyond price. 100% of the Made in USA Certified® wines are sourced from the family’s own vineyards and from trusted winemakers who have worked with Mondavis for decades. Today the winery is run by the third generation of co-owners, Mark Mondavi, and the fourth generation is beginning to make its mark.
This anniversary is as much about our fans and partners as it is about our own family, said Co-Chair Mark Mondavi. At the heart of our family business is a commitment to creating wines that can bring people together. We are incredibly grateful for the loyalty we have enjoyed, the trust we have earned, and the way we have been welcomed at parties large and small over the past seven decades. Our thanks to everyone who sat around the table with CK Mondavi and his family.
To mark the occasion, the winery is introducing new heat-sensitive labels for its white wines. Printed with thermochromic ink, the entire surface of the front label changes from a light cream color at room temperature to a bright, saturated color when properly cooled to about 55 degrees Fahrenheit. The Thermochrom technology guarantees a perfectly chilled glass of wine and transmits the perfect serving temperature to the consumer. Plus, it’s a catchy statement in store refrigerators. In addition, all of the winery’s core products, including white wines and Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, will bear a new 75th anniversary stamp, proudly celebrating the winery’s 75-year family heritage.
Last spring we tested the Thermochrom colours on a limited range and it was such a success that we decided to extend the concept to all our whites, says Riana Mondavi, fourth generation and director of Chains – Western Region. The color change is very dramatic – from cream to beautiful bright yellow in Chardonnay, for example. It allows our fans to pour the perfect glass every time, because it so easily indicates the optimal flow temperature. The new labels are a real eye-catcher, as the packaging has been updated to celebrate the 75th anniversary.
Finally, the winery continues the spirit of generosity and community that was so important to the founders, expanding its longstanding partnership with the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Foundation (IFHF) to benefit the men and women of the armed forces and their families. The winery will continue to support the IHFF through annual donations and in-store programs and has donated more than $215,000 to the group since 2012. Peter Mondavi, Sr. was a veteran of World War II and dedicated to those who served the country, so the IHFF has deep meaning to the community.
Respecting tradition while pushing new opportunities in winemaking, marketing and business is very much in the spirit of CK Mondavi and his family, continues Riana Mondavi. I hope my grandparents and great-grandparents will be proud of what our whole family has accomplished.
The CK Mondavi and Family collection is available nationwide and includes Moscato, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Red Blend varieties. All are available at the suggested retail price of $6.99 for a 750ml bottle and $13.99 for a 1.5L magnum.
