The wine area at the foot of the hill allows visitors to peek behind the cellar door into the converted building.

Plymouth, CA, 6. April 2021. – The Amador Winegrowers Association (AVA) hosted the weekend of 26-28. March 2021: More than 1,200 people attended the annual regional wine event Behind the Cellar Door.  Visitors to Amador Wine Country from California and Nevada can experience the winemaking process at the 37 participating wineries. Guests enjoyed tastings of Amador wines, food and wine pairings, barrel samples and creative and educational presentations.

AVA partnered with CellarPass, an enterprise-level guest management solution for the wine and hospitality industry, to implement a program that ensures capacity limits are not exceeded while allowing guests to plan their adventures at will. In accordance with all protocols mandated by the State of California, guests reserved their seats at the affiliated wineries as part of the advance ticket sales.

While our members have been able to host outdoor tastings since January, we were very pleased to be able to bring people to Amador County in a transformed environment to experience this wonderful annual event, said Jack Gorman, executive director of the Amador Vintners Association. For more than 25 years, we have invited our guests to take a peek behind the cellar door and enjoy great wine, food, entertainment and educational opportunities at our member wineries. Last year’s event was the last regional wine event in the state before COVID closed. This year, we are proud to be the first region to host an event of this magnitude while adhering to all safety protocols.

Behind the door of the winery, guests will have the unique opportunity to learn about the winemaking process directly from Amador County producers. In many cases, guests will be able to taste wines that are not available at retail and can only be sourced directly from small wineries in Amador County. In the past, guests purchased a ticket through AVA and visited each participating winery during the weekend. However, COVID-19’s safety protocols forced AVA to revise its approach and provided a better overall experience.

Guests and attendees alike were full of praise for the new format and the overall experience. I just wanted to let you know how successful I thought this BCD was this year…. ! The service and tasting at each winery was very personal and they went out of their way to make the event a success, said Marilyn B., guest from California. The newly designed structure was also appreciated by the participants of the winery. The booking made the experience very relaxed, laid back and enjoyable for both the guests and for all of us who participated in the event. We had more time to talk to guests, tell them our story and offer them the famous Amador hospitality. This made customers happier and increased sales for the weekend. About the Amadora Wine Region

Amador’s historic wine region dates back to the gold rush of the 1850s, when settlers came to the foothills of California in search of gold. Many of the miners were immigrants from Europe and brought with them their love of wine. Today, some Gold Rush plantations still flourish in Amador County, giving growers access to some of California’s oldest vineyards.  Amador has over 55 wineries and more than 3,700 acres of hillside vineyards. Long home to the amazing Zinfandels, winemakers have planted and now make wines from a variety of grape varieties, including Barbera, Sangiovese and Syrah in reds and Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Viognier in whites, to name a few.

The region is known for its full-bodied wines, rich in fruity flavors, balanced and harmonious, which go well with the many cuisines. Restaurants and sommeliers are looking for Amador wines to add to their menus and wine lists.
