If you’re a fan of movies like “Sideways”, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”, and “Borat”, you are in for a treat. They will all be on sale for $30 when you come to “Buena Vista Winery” to hear the songs from these films performed live by the award-winning musical group “Sideways: The Musical”. The show will begin at 7 p.m. sharp.

We had the pleasure of attending a preview of Sideways: The Musical World Premiere at Buena Vista Winery in downtown Napa last night, and we can’t say enough good things about the event. The stars of the show, Gregg Sulkin (Thaddeus) and Scarlett Strallen (Alissa), were out in full force, as were the other Sideshows cast members. So, what can we say that hasn’t already been said?

The music of SIDEWAYS: THE MUSICAL has been featured in numerous films, including Sideways and Garden State, and has been covered by musicians from Frank Sinatra to Wyclef Jean, but the songs have never been performed live in public. That changes tonight, October 4, when the musical will be brought to life by an all-star cast from Los Angeles, including Jason Mraz, Emmylou Harris, and Gladys Knight.

In a limited live-concert engagement, September 11 – 12 in Sonoma Wine Country, the cast includes Broadway’s brightest rising talents, with Author Rex Pickett as Master of Ceremonies.

A-Concert-of-Songs-from-Sideways-The-Musical-World-Premieres-at-BuenaSONOMA, CA – 4 AUGUST 2021 – A Concert of Songs from Rex Pickett’s Sideways: The Musical will be performed as a limited live-concert engagement especially for American Express Card Members on September 11-12 at Buena Vista Vineyard, California’s first premium winery – established in 1857. With its Academy Award-winning feature film adaptation, author Rex Pickett’s world-renowned book Sideways famously shook the world of wine forever. His funny new musical will premiere on Broadway this summer, starring Broadway’s greatest new talents. This Concert of Songs is a one-of-a-kind event: a sneak peek at the complete stage show. Anthony Leigh Adams wrote the score for Sideways: The Musical, which was produced by John Campbell and Rex Pickett. American Express, WineDirect, and The Hitching Post are among the sponsors of the sweeping live experiences of humor, tragedy, and romance. Buena Vista Winery of the Boisset Collection will offer pre-reception food and wine activities, as well as unique wine tasting opportunities. Master of Ceremonies will be Rex Pickett.

This Concert of Songs will include 10 of Rex Pickett’s Sideways: The Musical’s 18 never-before-performed songs, including “The Life of Wine,” “Drink a Memory,” “You’re Not The One,” and “No Matter How Low We Go.” Devin Archer (Miss Saigon), Audrey Cardwell (Falsettos; Bright Star), Nicholas Edwards (Frozen; Last 5 Years), and Emily Goglia (Grease, Live! ; STAGES) are among the cast members.

While Payne’s film centered on Miles (Paul Giamatti) and Jack (Thomas Haden-Church), Pickett’s musical elevates the emotional implications of their road journey through California’s wine region. “The two female main parts have been significantly extended, resulting in a more lushly romantic piece without losing the bawdy humor that fans have grown to expect from the original film,” Pickett added.

“I requested John Campbell to be my main producer just before Broadway closed in March 2020,” Rex Pickett stated. As the Covid epidemic progressed, Pickett completed composing all of the songs with Adams and stated, “although limitations began to ease this year, theaters still aren’t completely open yet.” And then John had a great idea: we could still put on a live musical show, honoring the abundant themes of wine and good times in a safe, open-air environment. Wine country provided the ideal setting for a Concert of Songs from the musical.” The performances will be Executive Produced by Jacob Langfelder (Sea Wall/A Life starring Jake Gyllenhaal), who has been nominated for a Tony Award.

“At Buena Vista Winery, we are thrilled to present Sideways: the Musical… Buena Vista has long been a leader in bringing culture and wine together in a magnificent setting at the foot of California’s original wine caves and stone winery. “Bringing musical theater to life with Rex Pickett and John Campbell’s great skills is a dream come true for the wine world,” said Jean-Charles Boisset, Proprietor of Buena Vista Winery.
